Preparing Students for a Digital 21st Century

Abstract

In the 21st Century, much of society, industry and government business is conducted online. At the same time, the online environment is also becoming increasingly complex and ubiquitous. It is no longer true that the virtual and reality are separate environments that do not impact on each other. Therefore, new graduates and leaders of this young century need to have a range of skills and attributes that can help them navigate this online ecology. The session introduces the concept of Digital Astuteness as a holistic way of looking at these skills and attributes and challenges participants to think about how they are being developed within the internationalised curriculum. Digital Astuteness is proposed to include digital skills and literacy, digital emotional intelligence, security and well-being maintenance. These are the skills that should be considered when preparing students for the evolving digital environment.
