Internet Transforms Challenges into Opportunities

Abstract

The major issues of the Vietnamese higher education include: lack of qualified teachers while the number of students increased quickly; curricula and syllabi are not up-to-date; and increased tuition to build infrastructure. There are a few initiatives underway, namely, a new wave of privatisation with big businesses coming in, easing of government control of public universities, industry-university partnerships and going online.

Given this context, FuNiX was established as an internet-based University in Vietnam that aims to solve the shortage of teachers by using the Internet to connect learners directly with experts working in the field, as well as replacing lecturing and text books by MOOC courses.
