Developing a Research-Led International Engagement Strategy

Abstract

The aim of this presentation will be to share the experience of a research intensive university, Imperial College London, of developing an international engagement strategy that is led by research.  This presentation will examine the process by which Imperial is developing its international engagement with the United States and China, with focus on the importance of research in guiding these strategies.  Within these case studies, the importance of research as a guide for activities and programmes, including student mobility, seed funding, workshops will be examined, with the positive and negatives of this approached reviewed.

If permitted, Imperial would also aim to invite it key academic partner in China, Tsinghua University, to also present on its international engagement strategy, to allow for a comparison and open up greater opportunities for discussion.
