Call for Proposals

The theme of APAIE 2018 is The Impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on Higher Education in the Asia Pacific. As physical, digital and biological realms converge in the 21st Century, transforming virtually every industry and reshaping society, how should universities respond to the speed and intensity of such unprecedented disruptions?

The sub-themes are:
1. Technological advances impacting internationalisation in higher education.
The advent of new technologies will result in disruptions as well as opportunities to create new ways of learning, working and relating to one another. How have universities today responded to the myriad demands of ever-evolving technologies with regard to their internationalisation strategies? How will universities contribute to the continuous transformation of higher education through the novel but often disruptive use of technology?

2. Empowering future-ready graduates.

Intensified by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the future will be increasingly volatile, uncertain, ambiguous and complex. How does global and experiential education help create empowered students who are ready for an unpredictable world? How should universities amplify human potential by inspiring students to embrace uncertainty in order to thrive in an Age of Empowerment?

3. New modalities in global engagment and mobility.
Universities are continuing to move higher education beyond the traditional boundaries of the classroom and campus. How have universities utilised the latest technologies, strategies and trends in student, researcher and faculty mobility? What revolutionary strategies for global engagement are needed in an increasingly dynamic and connected world?

4. International research competition and collaboration.

The pursuit of excellence in universities propels greater competition, often leading to productive collaborations. How should universities encourage multidisciplinary and multi-partnership approaches to solving challenging problems? How will universities foster a genuinely collaborative and ethical scientific culture?

5. Regional reports
(By invitation only).
Analyses, trends and updates for the major regions of the world (e.g. Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, South Asia, Oceania, Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East) and how the Fourth Industrial Revolution will impact higher education in these regions.
