About APAIE

The Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) was established in Seoul, South Korea in 2004 by a Founding Committee consisting of thirteen university representatives from across the Asia Pacific region, and has since expanded to become a thriving association. APAIE aims to encourage greater cooperation between institutions, to enrich and support international programmes, activities and exchanges, and to promote the value of international education across the region and beyond. In doing so, APAIE devotes itself to the principles of mutual respect, diversity and collective progress.

APAIE seeks to bring together international educators, universities and related organisations active in Asia-Pacific higher education to promote communication, networking and professional development. The Association facilitates the exchange and mobility of students, staff and scholars, and the progression of academic collaboration inter-regionally. APAIE strives to promote best practice and policy in cooperation with various institutions and agencies, support benchmarking to advance institutions, and represent and promote the Asia-Pacific region’s views on international education to the rest of the world.

The APAIE Annual Conference and Exhibition attracts around 200 exhibitors and 1500 delegates each year. The Conference brings together international education policy-makers, practitioners and experts from across the globe to the Asia Pacific to network, improve professional skills and learn about new developments in international education. The growing attendance each year at the Conference reflects the burgeoning interest in the region and recognition of the Asia Pacific’s important role in international education.

Professor Sarah Todd
President, APAIE
Vice President (Global), Griffith University

Welcome to APAIE 2018!

Aptly described as the Gateway to Asia, few cities offer insights into a diverse region in the way that Singapore does, and I have no doubt that this conference will again see an increased number of delegates gather from around the world to learn more about higher education in the Asia Pacific.

Led by the National University of Singapore, Singapore’s universities have combined to organise a mine of events that will provide valuable opportunities to engage with colleagues and debate the future of what is often described as one of the most exciting higher education regions in the world. With the incredible pace of change showing no sign of abating, and the vibrancy and dynamism that typifies the Asia Pacific, participation in APAIE 2018 is essential for everyone involved in international education. On behalf of the APAIE Board of Directors, I look forward to welcoming you to Singapore in March 2018.
