Welcome to APAIE 2018!

Aptly described as the Gateway to Asia, few cities offer insights into a diverse region in the way that Singapore does, and I have no doubt that this conference will again see an increased number of delegates gather from around the world to learn more about higher education in the Asia Pacific.

Led by the National University of Singapore, Singapore's universities have combined to organise a programme of events that will provide valuable opportunities to engage with colleagues and debate the future of what is often described as one of the most exciting higher education regions in the world. With the incredible pace of change showing no sign of abating, and the vibrancy and dynamism that typifies the Asia-Pacific, participation in APAIE 2018 is essential for everyone involved in international education. On behalf of the APAIE Board of Directors, I look forward to welcoming you to Singapore in March 2018.

APAIE 2018 Welcome Video

Welcome Message - Lead Host

Professor Andrew Wee
Vice President, University & Global Relations, NUS

My warmest welcome to the 2018 Annual APAIE Conference & Exhibition in Singapore. Our work in promoting international education and global mobility in higher education is especially important today, with the impact of disruptive technologies giving rise to a rapidly changing and increasingly complex society. Universities create new knowledge and groom future leaders, and to thrive they must be active nodes in the global knowledge network.

As we countdown to APAIE 2018, you can look forward to a conference theme that is pertinent to international education administrators, and meet your international counterparts at the iconic Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. I have no doubt that APAIE 2018 will be an insightful, fruitful and memorable experience for all participants. See you in Singapore!

Assoc. Professor Anne Pakir
Director, International Relations Office, NUS and Vice-President of APAIE

On behalf of the National University of Singapore and our three co-hosting universities (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, and Singapore University of Technology and Design), I am delighted to welcome our conference participants and distinguished speakers to Singapore for the 13th Annual APAIE Conference & Exhibition in March 2018!  Hosted at the picturesque Sands Expo & Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands, located in the heart of the financial district of Singapore, APAIE 2018 will explore The Impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on Higher Education in the Asia Pacific.  As institutions of higher learning continue their pursuit of preparing graduates to thrive in an ever increasingly VUCA - Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous - world, we envisage APAIE 2018 serving as a platform for professionals in international education of all levels to engage in discussions on this pertinent topic.  As the world continues to adapt to the new disruptions caused by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is all the more fitting for the discussions to take place in Singapore, one of only three city-states in the world, and one that has constantly reinvented itself to stay ahead of the curve in addressing global challenges.  Higher education is one of the key pillars of society that must respond to a future economy and world dramatically different from the one we grew up in and we hope that the conversations that we will have during the week will prove fruitful. Please enjoy Singapore and APAIE 2018!
